Théâtre du Nouveau Monde is the theatre where classics old and new come to life. The company produces and performs major works from the local and international repertoires, and gives pride of place to new works. TNM was founded in Montreal in 1951 amidst the post-Second World War cultural awakening; it helped pave the way for the Quiet Revolution, which propelled Quebec into the modern world. The theatre was founded by a small group of six theatre professionals, including Jean Gascon and Jean-Louis Roux. The founders had just completed theatre studies in Europe, and most had started their theatrical journey with the Compagnons de Saint-Laurent, a company led by Father Émile Legault.
